FIFA World Cup 2006 Germany™.

Completely redundant audio network for commentary boxes.

Lawo was appointed by Host Broadcast Services Consulting (HBS) to provide the commentator signals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany™ from the twelve German stadiums to the Master Control Room at the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Munich. There two Lawo mc²66 produced the international sound. HBS was responsible for the host broadcast operations and technical broadcast infrastructure for this event.

From the stadion to the screen

Every one of the twelve stadiums was equipped with several DALLIS I/O systems and one routing system Nova73 HD which performed the transmission via ATM to IBC. From there the coverage was distributed worldwide.

Lawo also installed two of their mc²66 audio consoles in the IBC for mixing the delivered signals and providing surround productions for the world feeds. On site at the stadiums, the signals could be supplied directly to OB vans and to approximately 200 commentary boxes. The network was designed to be completely redundant.

The whole concept for this networked system also comprised a special configured operation console which was designed from HBS. The system could be operated by touch screen.
